Frequently Asked Questions
Amenities
What's included with my stay?
Quite a bit, actually. For the beach: 8 chairs, towels, a large and small cooler, and a charcuterie box you can take straight to the sand.
In the backyard: a private hot tub, access to the community pool, a private grill, cornhole, giant yard pong, a 10-person dining table, and an outdoor shower.
In the kitchen: gas stove and oven, dishwasher, blender, crockpot, full cooking and baking sets, drip coffee maker, and a Nespresso.
In the bedrooms and bathrooms: Aruba Aloe shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion, plus a blow dryer and hot water throughout.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
Yes, and it's genuinely good. Aruba desalinates and purifies its water to high international standards — many locals prefer it to bottled. Fill up your reusable bottles from the tap and don't think twice about it.
Location & Getting Around
How far is Yellow Cunucu from the beach?
Palm Beach is 7 minutes, Eagle Beach 10, Tres Trapi 12, Arashi 15, and Baby Beach 35. You're well-placed for the whole west coast without having to be in the middle of the resort strip.
What's nearby?
Within 5 to 10 minutes you'll find Superfood and Ling & Sons supermarkets, gas stations, bakeries, and local restaurants. Oranjestad with its wider range of dining and shopping is 10 to 15 minutes away. We put together a curated guide for every guest covering our favorite nearby spots — the best pastechi stands, local Aruban restaurants, and the places that don't show up on the first page of Google.
Do I need a car?
We strongly recommend one. Aruba is only 20 miles long but the best beaches, Arikok National Park, and most of the island's highlights are spread out. With a car you can explore freely, hit a different beach each day, and make grocery runs on your own schedule. Gas is affordable, roads are easy, and parking is free almost everywhere. We're happy to recommend rental companies with good rates.
Do you offer airport pickup?
We don't provide transportation, but getting here is straightforward. Queen Beatrix International Airport has taxis and all major rental car companies on-site, and we're only 15 to 20 minutes away. Reach out when you book and we'll point you toward the rental companies we trust.
Staying With Us
Is parking available?
Yes — free private parking for two vehicles in the driveway. Worth mentioning because many Aruba resorts charge $15 to $25 per day for parking. You won't pay a cent here.
Can I check in early or check out late?
Whenever our schedule allows, yes, at no extra charge. Just share your flight details when you book and we'll do everything we can to work around your timing.
Is Yellow Cunucu good for families?
Very much so. Four separate bedrooms give kids and parents their own space. There's a spacious yard, a hot tub, and the neighborhood pool. The full kitchen handles whatever picky eaters need, and the washer and dryer take care of the inevitable sandy beach clothes. Palm Beach and Eagle Beach are both under 10 minutes, and Baby Beach — Aruba's best for young children thanks to its shallow, calm lagoon — is 35 minutes away.
Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately not at this time.
Do you offer long-term stays?
Yes. If you're a remote worker or planning an extended visit, Yellow Cunucu works well for it — full kitchen, dedicated workspace, high-speed WiFi, washer and dryer, and a quiet neighborhood. Get in touch directly for monthly rates and flexible arrangements.
Packing
What should I bring?
The non-negotiables: reef-safe SPF 50+ sunscreen (buy it before you arrive — it's two to three times more expensive on the island), lightweight breathable clothing, at least two swimsuits, a hat, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle since the tap water here is excellent.
Useful to have: water shoes for rocky beaches like Malmok and Arashi, a light cardigan for heavily air-conditioned restaurants, one nicer outfit for dinner, a waterproof phone case, and snorkel gear if you own it (saves $15 to $20 per day in rentals).
One tip: pack light. With the in-house washer and dryer you can do laundry any time, which means half the clothes and more room for whatever you pick up on the island.
The Property
Is there WiFi?
Yes, free high-speed WiFi throughout the entire house. Strong enough for video calls, streaming, and remote work.
Is the house accessible? Are there stairs?
Yellow Cunucu is a single-story ground floor home with no stairs. There is only one step up on the front porch and the back porch. All bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas are on one level.
Is the neighborhood safe?
Very. Calbas is a quiet, residential Aruban neighborhood. The property is fully fenced with a private backyard. Aruba in general is one of the safest islands in the Caribbean.
What is a cunucu house?
A cunucu house is a traditional Aruban home that dates back to the island's early settlers. The word cunucu comes from Papiamento and refers to the countryside. These homes reflect Aruba's cultural heritage and are typically found in quiet inland neighborhoods away from the resort areas. Yellow Cunucu is a restored cunucu home that blends that traditional character with modern comforts.
Aruba Travel

The official currency is the Aruban Florin, but US dollars are accepted everywhere on the island. Credit cards work at most restaurants, shops, and supermarkets. You generally do not need to exchange money.
What language do they speak in Aruba?
The official languages are Dutch and Papiamento, a Creole language unique to the ABC islands. English and Spanish are widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. You will have no trouble communicating in English anywhere on the island.
Do I need a passport to visit Aruba?
Yes, a valid passport is required for US citizens. No visa is needed for stays up to 30 days. Make sure your passport is valid for the duration of your trip.
What is the weather like in Aruba?
Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt so the weather is warm and sunny year round. Average temperatures range from 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a brief rainy season from October to December but showers are short and the sun usually returns quickly. Trade winds keep things comfortable even on the hottest days.
When is the best time to visit Aruba?
Every season has its appeal. December through April is peak season with the driest weather and the most visitors. May through November is quieter with lower prices, fewer crowds, and the same beautiful beaches. The water is warm enough to swim year round.
Is Aruba safe for families?
Aruba is consistently ranked as one of the safest Caribbean islands. It is a popular destination for families with children. The beaches are clean and well-maintained, the locals are welcoming, and crime rates are low. We have hosted many families at Yellow Cunucu and the neighborhood is quiet and family friendly.
